Dr. John F. Edwards has over fifteen years of experience in data acquisition and analysis. As Director of Mississippi State University’s Survey Research Laboratory at the Social Science Research Center, Dr. Edwards has led the administration of more than 150 scientifically-based survey projects. These surveys cover a broad range of research topics, including healthcare, education, behavioral risk factors, children’s wellbeing, vocational rehabilitation, quality of life, disaster response, and the state of the economy. Past client include Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, Mississippi State Department of Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The Walton Family Foundation, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Most recently, Dr. Edwards has worked with a team of social scientists and computer programmers to establish a data laboratory that provides researchers with access to social media data as a source of public communications related to a particular event or specific research topic. Through the development of cutting-edge, web-based applications, scientists have real-time access to social media data that can be captured, codified, and analyzed to meet the needs of a given research project.
In addition to his work at the Social Science Research Center, Dr. Edwards has taught courses in Measurement & Evaluation, Statistics, and Technical Writing at Mississippi State University.
